I had the Black update on my 920 when my phone restarted as well. I lost about 5 months of pictures but the phone was saved.
The installation failed the first time and worked fine the second when I clicked install while the phone was on the Nokia screen before the windows boot manager screen appeared. When I read this article I thought what the hell I'll try it. I kept the 920 because I thought it was interesting error message on a phone.
I decided to pay the extra money, upgrade and get a 1020. I'm not very computer savy but I researched this and couldn't find anything to solve the issue. Finally tried a hard reset and a window boot manager screen would appear and tell me to insert the installation disc, choose my language, and reboot my computer. After the Nokia screen it would once again turn to the "blue screen of death". I pulled my 920 out about a month ago and there was nothing but a blue screen. Once you have completed all instructions in step 2 plug it back in and you should have your phone between 5-10 minutes.Īnyways, I hope this helps everyone out there. If your battery dies plug it in, follow step 2 and unplug phone after step 2-1(when phone restarts). For anyone stuck at the wheels of death, follow step 2 on this following page. The issue that I gathered from my testing seems to stem from formatting/erasing internal storage. I have only had the 920 at my disposal so I can only speak for the 920's. Have experience the endless gears several times and decided that somewhere in the process, there must be an issue since you don't get spinning gears on a phone with no apps installed. The factory restore will take no more than 5 minutes. Audible with multiple downloaded books.ĥ. Erase any apps that have high storage on your phone - I.E. Backup your phone(either via comp or wifi to cloud). For anyone wanting to reset their phone to factory reset, do the following:ġ. Good luck!įor everyone, I have actually resolved the issue with the endless gears of death on Lumia 920. Just make sure everything installs properly before you proceed. I can only think the USB driver failing to install was the problem and the reason that the connection kept dropping. At this point, it appears that the phone is completely dead with no chance of recovery. The tool eventually had a pop message to do a soft reset, but I am not sure if I had waited it would have matter. Well, I tried to do another soft reset, but this time, it just shut off and didn’t restart. The tool displayed messages like “don’t turn off your phone or your phone may not work”. Finally, the phone software started to install and I thought it was actually going to work! However, the connection was lost again. Even after the phone software started to download, but it lost the connection and I had to do additional soft resets before it was detected again. I had to keep doing soft resets before it was detected. When I loaded the tool, it took a couple of attempts before it detected the phone. However, I didn't notice this until later. There ended being an error installing the driver for the Nokia USB cable. First, the install of the tool took a while and the machine had to reboot after the initial. I read about this recovery tool on another site yesterday, so last night I downloaded it and tried to recover the 822.
However, I wanted to keep the 822 as a backup phone.
Luckily, I was already in the process of upgrading to the 928.
